There were many like it during it's time, but when Run-DMC released "Christmas in Hollis" in 1987 it created a marketable lane for holiday-related rap. Even before that, you can argue that the Jackson 5's 1970 release titled, Jackson 5 Christmas Album, made it possible for Christmas music to be released for an urban demographic to begin with. Kurtis Blow's first release after signing to Mercury Records label in 1979, was in fact a single titled "Christmas Rappin'". It's interesting enough to note, that Blow was the first rap act to sign a major deal at the time. Our Christmas playlist does not include any of the typical cuts that you would expect.
